The San Felipe, also known as "El Real" or "Real Felipe," was named after King Felipe V of Spain, the first monarch of the Bourbon dynasty in Spain. Built in 1716 at the shipyards of San Feliú de Gixols, this three-deck first-class warship was renowned for its robust construction, featuring double internal and external planking for enhanced hull strength. Over 4,000 trees were used in its construction, contributing to significant deforestation in Spain.

Equipped with 108 cannons and measuring 67 meters in length, 16.5 meters in beam, and 12 meters in height, the San Felipe was a formidable warship. It began service in the Sardinia campaign in October 1717 and later participated in the Sicily campaign in 1718. The ship met a tragic end due to negligence, leading to a fire and explosion in Mahón, under British control at the time.
